I grew up in a small town in Kingston, MA with two very successful and supportive parents along with one awesome younger brother and two cats. My parents are successful professionals, Mother a Partner at her law firm and father Senior Engineer at large Tech Firm (think Tony Stark from Ironman, without the eye for modern fashion). They instilled many great qualities in me, though the ones that really stuck with me was a drive to work hard and a love for sports. My mom always use to quote her fathers favorite saying “a quitter never wins, and a winner never quits”. She might have sounded like a broken record when I was younger but those words along with my parents support is what molded me into the determined hard working person I am today.
Up until high school, basketball was a passion of mine. Though sidelined with an injury in my senior year, I found myself in the gym rehabbing frequently. I quickly fell in love with the weights and the ability to transform my body with the training I was doing. My passion for the hardwood turned into a passion for the iron and with that came a desire to both become a personal trainer and to compete in a Natural(Drug Free) Bodybuilding Show. Doing some research into becoming certified as a trainer, I found I needed to learn much more about all aspects of fitness. Nutrition seemed to be the central message of what everything boiled down to. If you want to improve your health, performance and or physique, nutrition was priority number one.
Over the next couple of years I immersed myself in the fitness industry, continued to compete in Natural Bodybuilding Shows, started an online personal training business, and wrote for several leading online journals. I loved what I was doing. This all lead me into the Supplement Industry. I was pursued by a new supplement brand to become one of their sales reps and quickly fell in love with this side of the industry. With my passion for the training and nutrition coupled with the knowledge I have obtained helped me become successful at it new position.
After a couple years of successful sales in the Northeast, I got another job offer; this lead to a Huge move!….I packed my bags and headed to Miami, FL. I was to become Director of Sales for a larger brand that was also owned and operated by one of the most state of the art Contract Manufacturers in the industry. It was hear that I have been able to grow and learn about so many different aspects about the supplement business. As of right now we have 2 brand one that is a hardcore bodybuilding brand the other a newer line which is all Natural and targeted toward your Sports athlete. It is great to be part of such a top notch large organization while also watching Sweet Spreads develop and grow from the little idea that Mel and I had in our small apartment only just 6 months ago
Mel and Alex:
I had been in Miami for 2 years when I met the love of my life, Melissa. We were introduced by my best friend, I am not sure if it was sweet dancing Skills, dashing good looks and or charm that got her to start going out with me but soon after we met we started to dating. She claims it has something to do with my persistence and not taking no for an answer about going on a date… Please.
Whatever you would like to believe, she eventually fell for me and we soon moved in together.
Everything seems to work perfectly with us, Mel and I complement each other very well. She is good at what I am not and I am good at stuff she isn’t. This really has helped us with the business. It allows us to be more efficient with tasks as we both spend time doing the things we are good at and not having to do the things we don’t like. Best of all, each of us can help teach the other how to get better at the stuff we not strong at.
After 3 or so years of living together I proposed on New Year Eve of 2013, we are currently engaged to be married in Nov of this year (2014). I am so happy to be able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend and love of my life.
Check out all the flavors!
